Tetris Couldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

Whenever a prominent prize-giving event approaches, one notices a demand for introducing fresh award types to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and fill the passions of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.

My colleague has already made supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. So would board games, which is someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward because like all single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request is the most urgent and significant. The demand is this: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason film award organizations avoid this approach. But it is an essential concession for the industry of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards currently feature award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these classifications successfully include many game types, making space possible accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: structural challenges in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles from additional release. What category would fit them among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

Recognition Challenges

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games released every year that have no home in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated for anything that year
  • A different innovative game received no nominations that year
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked recently
  • Only a few puzzle games scraped into independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent modest productions, yet the craft behind logic titles holds tremendous importance. Well-known matching games stand as most popular titles globally and have been for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience rivals popular creative games for the title of best-selling game of all time; it also contends for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. You could fill a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.

And to reiterate, these represent titles without proper classification at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators function at the demanding boundary of video game design, developing some of essential manifestations of the video game form. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
