2K Games has welcomed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the forthcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
The new appointee assumes the leadership position at the development studio following the dismissal of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's lackluster early showing last autumn.
Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer updated team members about this organizational change through an internal memo, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had indicated the need for a clearer direction.
The president stated that the team is now overhauling Project Ethos with a renewed approach, aiming to satisfy player expectations.
This announcement follows a comparable action taken by the publisher in the summer, when they hired an industry veteran from the Diablo team to assist with the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.
Here is the full content from Ismailer's memo:
Hello Everyone—
I know you all just finished your gathering - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the recent updates. Last time I sent you all a update, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most driven and creative creators we have had the opportunity to collaborate with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to continue.”
Through your commitment and versatility, especially over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.
The player input from last fall’s Project ETHOS testing phase was revealing. It affirmed the promise of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had work to do. It revealed the necessity for a sharper brand.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the feedback to heart and revamped Project ETHOS with a renewed goal - one that’s poised to deliver on its promise to our fans.
The belief in this project grows every day. To advance the remarkable advancement you’ve made, I’m excited to announce Ben Brinkman as the incoming Studio Head of the team. After a period of discussions, Ben starts with us on Monday, October 20.
His guidance and background in the competitive gaming genre is considerable, having devoted the last 15 years developing and overseeing some of the most well-known series in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, Apex Legends.
Please join me in greeting Ben next week. We are all looking forward to keep witnessing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the months to come.
David
The appointee presently holds the role of senior developer and head of production at the renowned studio for Apex Legends. Brinkman earlier worked at Treyarch and Activision in various production roles on the iconic franchise series, and, before that, had periods at other industry leaders.
Project Ethos was unveiled in last year together with a early access event. Initially, the developers portrayed the game as a "no-cost, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an exciting step forward on the style."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in real-time to suit your personal playstyle," the official summary states. "Challenge the opponents with fresh skills, challenges, and obstacles that change every match. Will you withdraw carefully with your collected items? Or take a risk, risk it all, and pray your group can earn top ranking? The decision is yours."
The game has not yet received an announced release date or consoles, but enthusiasts can anticipate additional details as creation progresses.
